New Tech Smell

Walmart isn’t always seen as a go-to for tech, especially by younger shoppers. So we reframed the experience of getting new gear by tapping into a familiar cultural moment: the unboxing. But instead of just opening a laptop, our character took a big, satisfied whiff, introducing the world to that “new tech smell.” Like the smell of a new car or a fresh pair of kicks, it became a metaphor for pride, excitement, and digital dopamine. A core memory was activated, and a new cultural cue was born, all from a Walmart laptop.
